/ Progress on the bill that modifies Law 19.628, on data protection

On March 24 after being unanimously approved by the members of the Senate Constitution Commission, the Finance Commission began the review of the project on the data protection.
As pointed out by Senator Harböe during a webinar on the matter organized by AmCham on April 16, the Finance Commission will only review budget issues associated with the control body (Chilean Transparency Council, or CPLT by its Spanish initials). Therefore, in the coming weeks the second constitutional process should begin, planning the promulgation of the standard for 6 more months.
On the other hand, in an interview recently published by the newspaper El Mercurio, the president of CPLT, lawyer Jorge Jaraquemada, calls for a shorter law which would address the most urgent matters, as well as the need to establish an agency that acts as guarantor of the rights and responsibilities in data handling.
