The airlines signed a partnership proposal to unite American’s global service presence with the complementary network of low-cost airline JetSMART in the region.
The US company American Airlines proposes to acquire a minority stake in the national airline linked to the Indigo Partners fund. This Arizona-based private equity fund focuses on investments in the air transportation sector. Its current investments include Wizz Air, Frontier Airlines, Volaris, JetSMART, Cebu Pacific and Enerjet.
In the press release, the companies specified that under the agreement both commit to provide additional capital to finance possible future opportunities in the region. This alliance would allow JetSmart to rapidly expand its route network in Latin America and American Airlines to strengthen its South American network to create interest for travelers in more markets.
This partnership would also make AAdvantage the largest travel loyalty program in America. Customers could earn and redeem AAdvantage miles on JetSMART flights, regardless of whether they are in North or South America.
