/ Craig VanGrasstek Presented His New Book on Trade Wars at Alessandri
August 18, 2026The scholar and expert in international trade visited Chile to present On Trade War, his most recent publication. The event, organized in partnership with the International Trademark Association (INTA), was attended exclusively by attorneys from Alessandri to discuss the challenges of the current international trade landscape.
A discussion was held at the Alessandri offices with Craig VanGrasstek, an academic, consultant, and one of the most renowned specialists in international trade, who visited Chile to present the main arguments of his new book, On Trade War (Cambridge University Press, 2026).
The event was organized in collaboration with the International Trademark Association (INTA) and featured Sebastián Gómez, INTA’s Chief Representative Officer, as well as Alejandro Jara, an attorney specializing in international trade and an arbitrator for the World Trade Organization’s Multi-Party Interim Appeal Arbitration Arrangement (MPIA).
During the event, VanGrasstek shared some of the key ideas presented in On Trade War, a work that examines the evolution of trade wars throughout history and their impact on the current international landscape. Among other topics, he addressed the growing rivalry between the United States and China, the role of major powers in shaping global trade, and the challenges these changes pose for third countries and open economies such as Chile’s.
The event allowed Alessandri’s attorneys to exchange views on the transformations currently taking place in the international trade system and to analyze trends that could influence the development of business, investment, and international economic relations in the coming years.
The event was part of VanGrasstek’s agenda in Chile, centered on the presentation of On Trade War, which also included meetings with government officials, representatives from academia, and other stakeholders involved in international trade.
