October 6, 2023

With a significant turnout of clients and friends, Alessandri celebrated 130 years of history. Lawyers, clients, and friends gathered at the firm’s offices for an entertaining evening featuring live music and a delightful cocktail.

Arturo Alessandri, partner at the firm, reflected on the significance of these 130 years in his speech and paid homage to his predecessors and founders. Partner Macarena Gatica emphasized the present challenges and the future outlook, particularly regarding gender gaps and equity.

Arturo Alessandri highlighted the firm’s beginnings, stating, “there are few law firms that can boast 130 years of existence”. He added, “our history began in 1893 when Mr. Arturo Alessandri Palma received his law degree. However, the passion of the Lion of Tarapacá was politics: he served as Chile’s president twice”, inviting those present to view his original degree certificate displayed in one of the office rooms.

He continued by recounting the legacy of Arturo Alessandri Rodríguez, underscoring his career, studies, and contributions to the nation and the firm. “He became the dean of the Law School at Universidad de Chile. The current building was constructed under his administration during his father’s presidency. He was also the president of the Bar Association. Alongside a brilliant legal career and multiple achievements in court, he is the only Chilean lawyer to hold an Honorary Doctorate from the Sorbonne University, Paris”, he highlighted about his grandfather.

He spoke about his father, Arturo Alessandri Besa, noting how he expanded the firm’s professional scope to include industrial property, “contributing not only as a lawyer but also as a senator involved in legislation”. Finally, he expressed gratitude and greeted the team that constitutes Alessandri today, “who have made it possible for this firm to grow and consolidate. I greet my present partners”, he concluded.

Macarena Gatica, partner at the firm, emphasized Alessandri’s contributions through its dealings with clients as well as pro bono work for the community. She began by highlighting that the team now consists of 75 individuals, who, as a collective, have earned recognition in various international rankings. “We have strengthened our litigation department and are experiencing significant growth in arbitration, technology, personal data, and cybersecurity, compliance, banking law, fintech, among others. And, of course, we continue to lead in intellectual property”, Macarena Gatica added.

Expressing gratitude for the contribution of ChileMujeres, she commented on Alessandri Abogados’ research concerning gender gaps in the legal sector. “We believe this study will unveil valuable insights for our industry, as well as for universities, and will allow us to develop action plans to enhance women’s inclusion in the legal job market, adjusting job offers and eliminating gender biases in recruitment”. The results of this study will soon be released.
