/ Trademark Registration: The Madrid System begins to operate in Chile on July 4
July 4, 2022Chilean companies can use this international protocol to register their trademarks and thus protect their products and services in a simpler and more economical way.
On July 4 2022, the Madrid System entered into force in Chile, which allows trademark applicants and holders to file their international registration application in a centralized manner, as it works with a single application. This protocol is managed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and 128 countries are part of the agreement.
“This is an unprecedented opportunity for both SMEs and large Chilean companies, because they will have fewer barriers when positioning and registering their trademarks in international markets”, said the organization’s national director, Loreto Bresky, on Inapi’s website.
One of the benefits that this system brings to Chile is the possibility of paying only one set of fees. In addition, it is not necessary to hire the services of a representative in each destination country to submit the application. The application can be made in Spanish, so it is no longer necessary to invest in translations. All these factors now make applying for trademark registration more economical and less complex.
Applications for international trademark registration must be made through Inapi at its digital platform.
