Alessandri – Comprehensive offering best known for IP
With impressive commercial and technology acumen, Alessandri combines its top-tier intellectual property and corporate services to position itself among Chile’s most successful firms. Its sector-focused vision means clients receive a tailor-made approach to their legal and business concerns from a group of talented and passionate lawyers.
The firm considers itself a grouping of specialist practice areas operating as one firm, with litigation, arbitration, antitrust and capital markets also contributing to its strong core offering. Its market-leading IP practice has received a lot of client demand from companies thriving in the e-commerce space as well as those branching into the online sphere in recent years. Meanwhile, the data protection and cybersecurity divisions also help it stand out from the crowd.
Clients who once came to Alessandri for one-off IP matters are much more repeatedly asking for consolidated IP, compliance, consumer law and litigation counsel. Towards the end of 2021, the firm hired a lawyer from Chile’s consumer protection authority as of counsel, preparing to implement new pro-consumer legislation.
Alessandri’s banking and capital markets practice groups have been kept busy in recent years, while its judicial, labour law and insolvency departments were in high demand because of the effects of the covid-19 pandemic on companies’ operations.
The firm hopes to steer its partners away from being generalists; instead, it would like each group to have a specific sector focus, covering infrastructure, energy and finance.
Project developers from Ecuador and Peru are among the firm’s clients, as many energy and infrastructure companies in these jurisdictions tend to follow on from projects that have taken place in Chile: these developers are so satisfied with Alessandri’s counsel in Chile that they ask them to help in their cross-border ventures too.
Alessandri has invested heavily in technology. It is collaborating with an external company to use AI-powered tools within M&A transactions and in litigation, labour and aviation matters.
Clients benefit from additional services provided by two affiliates of the firm, Alessandri Asesoría and Alessandri Ambiental. Asesoría covers tax and labour consulting and risk analysis for corporate and private clients, while Ambiental offers environmental consultancy services, including advice regarding, and management of, environmental permits.
Managing partner Arturo Alessandri spent four years as president of the country’s Bar Association, a position that gave the firm exposure to prospective clients.
