/ Supreme Court of Chile orders handover of “.cl” domain name information

By decision dated October 25th 2019, the Supreme Court of Chile has ordered NIC Chile (entity in charge of domain name registration in Chile) to hand over a list of all the .CL domain names and their renovation date.

Regarding this decision from the Supreme Court, all administrative contacts for .CL domains have been receiving an email requesting access to public information as well as the possibilities of refusing this request. If you are the owner of a .CL domain and wish to oppose this petition, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Follow the link found in the email sent by NIC Chile.
  2. Select the option “me opongo” (I am opposed)
  3. State as grounds for refusal: “artículo 21, numero 2, de la Ley 20.285 sobre acceso a información pública, en tanto la entrega de dicha información podría afectar derechos de carácter comercial o económico” (the provisions of article 21, number 2, of Law 20.285 regarding access to public information, as the provision of said information could affect commercial or economic rights).
