Editorial coverage

Founded in 1893, Alessandri is a full-service law firm with more than a century of experience. Its team of 14 IP lawyers, two litigators and three in-house technical advisers make it one of the largest IP practices in the country. The firm is active in all areas of intellectual property, but particularly strong in trade marks. Trade mark clients include Pfizer, L’Oréal, Diversey, Lacoste and Warner Brothers. In patents, Alessandri represents energy technology company Babcock & Wilcox, Bayer, Bayer CropScience and Monsanto.

In one notable case, Alessandri succeeded in obtaining a geographical indication on behalf of its client, the Regulatory Council of Protected Geographical Indications Jijona and Turron of Alicante. Chile’s patent office INAPI has granted the European geographical indication Jijona to apply to nougat made in the Spanish province of Alicante, using traditional methods and local ingredients. Chile’s patent and trade mark authority has never before recognised a European product with that distinction.

The wine industry is another sector in which Alessandri has built up its IP practice. It serves as counsel to a large number of vineyards, including the trade association Asociación Gremial de Vinos de Chile, which represents more than 100 vineyards across the country. The firm helps vineyards register, maintain, renew and protect their trade marks.
