/ Creates inter-ministerial committee on cybersecurity
January 7, 2020On January 7, 2020, Supreme Decree No. 579 – 2019 of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Chile, which creates the “Advisory Commission of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Cybersecurity”; a technical advisory commission of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Cybersecurity.
This committee shall be formed by: a representative of the Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidency, a representative of the National Intelligence Agency, a representative of the Deputy Minister of Finance, a representative of the Deputy Minister of Defence and a representative of the Deputy Minister of the Interior, who shall chair the committee.
The Commission shall have the following responsibilities and attributions:
(a) Provide technical advice on cybersecurity to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Cybersecurity.
(b) To propose to the Committee the technical coordination protocols for dealing with various threats with regard to cybersecurity.
The decree also introduces other amendments relating to the powers of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Cybersecurity, adding new members to the Committee; a representative of the National Direction of the National Intelligence Agency and providing a definition of cybersecurity as the condition characterized by a minimum of risks and threats to technological infrastructure, the logical components of information and the interactions that take place in cyberspace, as well as the policies and measures designed to achieve that condition.
